Our Whole Vanilla Beans are perfect for dishes where vanilla is the star. To use, cut a vanilla bean in half lengthwise, then split each half down the center with a sharp paring knife. Use the blade to scrape out all the precious seeds - those tiny black specks of pure vanilla magic. Substitute 1 whole vanilla bean pod in place of 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. Once scraped, the “used” pods can be added to sugar to make vanilla sugar, steeped in cream or milk for custards and ice cream bases, or simmered in sauces for deep infusion.
